Sustainability
At Steve’s Real Food, sustainability isn’t just a buzzword—it’s a guiding principle behind everything we do. From farm to bowl, we’re dedicated to protecting the planet while providing the highest quality nutrition for your pet. Our commitment includes sourcing clean, earth-friendly ingredients, using renewable energy to power our facilities, minimizing packaging waste, and actively working to remove plastic from our oceans. Here’s how we’re making a difference:
Responsible sourcing is the heart of sustainable pet nutrition. All our ingredients are free from pesticides, antibiotics, synthetic additives, preservatives, 4D meats, and GMOs. These standards help protect our soil and waterways from harmful contaminants—and they support your pet’s health with improved digestion, increased energy, and reduced allergy symptoms.
Steve’s partners exclusively with farmers who share our eco-conscious values. Our fresh produce is sourced from local Pacific Northwest farms that practice regenerative agriculture, prioritize ethical animal treatment, and use water responsibly. Our meats are free-range and fed species-appropriate diets, and our fish are sourced from Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) certified sustainable fisheries.
Where we make our food matters. That’s why we chose to manufacture in Oregon, a state that leads the way in clean, renewable energy. With a power grid largely fueled by hydroelectricity, Oregon allows us to produce our minimally processed food using significantly less fossil fuel energy.
This intentional choice helps us reduce our carbon footprint and stay true to our mission of creating healthy food that’s good for pets and the planet.
Eco-conscious packaging is a key part of our commitment to sustainability. That’s why our packaging is made from #4-rated recyclable plastic, which can be recycled at participating grocery stores and in some curbside programs. Even the facility that manufactures our packaging runs on solar power.
We’re proud to be the first raw pet food company in the industry to receive Interseroh accreditation for our packaging. Our larger products are packed in recyclable corrugated boxes printed with vegetable-based inks, eliminating concerns about ink contaminating soil or water.
Steve’s Real Food is leading the charge in ocean conservation as the first pet food company to partner with 4ocean. Through this partnership, we’ve committed to removing 20,000 pounds of plastic and trash from the ocean—an amount equal to the number of 5-pound frozen and 20-ounce freeze-dried bags we ship. This is just the beginning. We’re scaling our efforts every year with the goal of reaching plastic neutrality by 2026.
